Additional information

Large singa like these were commissioned for wealthy family houses. These bear similar features as the pair illustrated in the publication mentioned above nr vi.7. Although referred to locally as singa, sanskrit for ‘lion’ – an animal not indigenous to Sumatra – it is a foreworldly creature which essence is that of the Naga Padoha.
