On the base is written Waroppen and Kg Wonti referring to the Waropen coastal area and the village Wonti, opposite Yapen island. The implement in the figure’s hands is intrigueing as it seems to depict a buffalo’s head unknown in this region, but a well known emblem in western part of Indonesia. Waropen is not known as a typical korwar-style area. Was this item traded?
