Additional information
Lime containers’ lick sticks consisting of a human figure were the privilege of clan- or family-heads and elderly men. Sometimes beneath the handle a vertical row of bands is carved which served the owner as a rhythm device during dance events, also seen along the Sepik (Iatmul) and Markham Valley (Adzera). Unusual is de quadruped on top of the figure’s head. Notice the three different spirals flanking the central animal figure.
