Additional information

This is an example of a closed and rectangular board, called yamate, in which we discern several oval motifs, mopere – a symbol of new life. They are known as ancestor boards. Old and new are ambiguously incorporated in one object. They were in use during festivals, the emakare feast celebrating life from death.
