Additional information

A very strong and expressive mask, aquired in the field in 1925. The black to white decorative pattern has been convincingly applied and the face itself is carved from a single piece of wood. The ‘horns’ protruding from the upper ears are hornbills and is rarely encountered on these spirit masks. It must have been made on a special commission.
