Additional information
The head made of a medium hard wood was once part of a (human) body, which can be deduced from the transverse hole in the neck. As there are no accoutrements the function is unclear. Yet, as a statue in the Liefkes collection – now National Museum of Ethnology Leiden – shows, it may have been part of a court statue for a ritual functional purpose.
